Coping with change can be difficult, and 2020 has been a year where a lot has changed. When we watch the news or hear stories of personal tragedy, we can feel discouraged and powerless as we reflect on the impact the pandemic has had on our lives.

At Pacific Health Ministry, we’ve faced the change by staying true to our founding mission of helping those in need. In 1986, a group of healthcare and religious leaders set out with the dream of providing spiritual care within the multi-ethnic setting of Hawaii’s healthcare institutions. They envisioned an organization centered on helping others in times of need, providing guidance when questions arise and comfort in times of struggle.

Never has this vision for providing spiritual care been more vital than in 2020. Serving in hospitals that have temporarily restricted patient visits, Pacific Health Ministry chaplains bring much needed comfort and support to those living without. Our focus is on spirituality; guiding those individuals who are suffering and facing confusion to a place of inner peace and understanding.

As an organization rooted in support of those in need, PHM has faced the changes presented by 2020 with courage and persistence, always ready to overcome challenges as they present themselves. In hospitals, PHM chaplains are beacons of hope. Hope of peace and better days to come. For 34 years, PHM has continued the dream of providing hospital ministry and clinical pastoral education in Hawaii and we continue our tradition of service as we lead the way to a better tomorrow.
