  • Attach your response to the summary questions
  • Attach the CPE admissions interview summary and/or all applicable CPE evaluations and submit email to cpeapplications@phmhawaii.org
  • Pay $75.00 Application Fee via the PHM website

 

CAN I COME IN TO APPLY?

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and following safety precautions, we ask all applicants to apply online by visiting our PHM website (www.phmhawaii.org).

 

DO I NEED TO PAY THE APPLICATION FEE? HOW MUCH IS THE FEE?

Yes. The CPE application fee is $75.00. Application fees can be paid online through our website.

 

WHAT ARE THE DEADLINES TO APPLY?

CPE Program application deadlines for the designated programs are posted on our website.

 

I DON’T SEE A SCHEDULE FOR THE CPE PROGRAM I AM INTERESTED IN.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic some programs may currently be on-hold. If you have a specific question regarding the program of interest, please email cpeapplications@phmhawaii.org. The Clinical Pastoral Education Department will provide an estimated timeframe of the next possible program date.

 

WHERE IS YOUR CPE CENTER LOCATED?

Our CPE Center is located on the island of Oahu in the State of Hawaii.

 

IF I APPLY, AM I AUTOMATICALLY ACCEPTED TO THE CPE PROGRAM?

No. CPE Slots for each CPE Program are limited per year. Applications for each CPE Program are received and reviewed by the admissions committee. Applicants will receive notice for an interview.

 

DO I NEED TO COME TO HAWAII FOR AN INTERVIEW?

Applicants are not required to come to Hawaii for an admissions interview.

 

HOW ARE INTERVIEWS CONDUCTED?

Interviews are generally by video conference or phone. If applicants are in Hawaii, then they can be asked to come in for an in-person interview.

 

HOW DO I CHECK MY CPE APPLICATION STATUS?

The CPE Department/Admissions Committee will inform you when they receive your application for review.

 

WHEN WILL I KNOW IF I AM ACCEPTED?

The CPE Admissions committee will send the applicant a letter of acceptance to the applicant to notify them of their acceptance to the CPE Program. Interviews must first be conducted before acceptance notices are sent.

 

CAN APPLY TO MORE THAN ONE CPE CENTER?

Yes, you can apply to more than one accredited ACPE CPE center.

 

CAN I BE IN two (2) CPE PROGRAMS AT ONE TIME?

No.

 

CAN YOU HOLD MY CPE APPLICATION FOR THE NEXT APPLICATION PERIOD?

No. We do not hold CPE applications for applicants past the date of the CPE Program they are applying. CPE applications are not transferred or held for future programs. All CPE Applications must be completed and submitted for the specific program year applied for.

 

WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENCES IN THE CPE PROGRAMS (EXTENDED, SUMMER, & RESIDENCY?

The Summer and Extended Units are one-unit programs. The Residency is a four-unit program.

 

HOW MANY UNITS OF CPE IS THE RESIDENCY PROGRAM?

Our CPE Residency Program is a four (4) unit Program.

 

WHEN DOES THE RESIDENCY CPE START?

The CPE Residency Program begins in the Fall, usually around the 1st of September each year.

 

DO YOU ACCEPT 2ND YEAR RESIDENTS?

Yes. Our CPE center accepts 2nd Year Residency applicants.

 

I AM AN INTERNATIONAL APPLICANT; HOW DO I APPLY?

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, our CPE center is currently not able to accept international applications. Please check our website any updated information.

 

I AM AN INTERNATIONAL APPLICANT RESIDING IN THE US, HOW CAN I APPLY?

Our CPE center is currently not able to accept or change visa status for any international applicant residing in the US under a different program. Please check our website for any updated information.

 

IS YOUR CPE RESIDENCY PROGRAM ONLINE?

No. Our CPE Residency Program is not an online program.

 

CAN I RECEIVE EQUIVALENT CREDIT FOR COMPLETING CLINICAL TRAINING IN MY MINISTRY (CHURCH/HOSPITAL)?

No. All clinical training for the CPE Programs is completed at an assigned clinical site. We cannot provide credit for your personal ministry work or ministry experience.

 

DO I NEED TO BE ORDAINED TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR CPE?

Please check the eligibility requirements on our website.

 

DO YOU HAVE A FEDERAL FINANCIAL AID PROGRAM?

No. We do not have a Federal Financial Aid Program.

 

ARE YOU AN APPROVED INSTITUTION UNDER THE VETERANS EDUCATION ASSISTANCE ACT?

No. Our Center is accredited by the national ACPE as an accredited center for Clinical Pastoral Education.

 

DO YOU PROVIDE ANY SCHOLARSHIPS?

No. We do not provide any direct scholarships to applicants.

 

CAN I BE A CHAPLAIN AFTER THE CPE PROGRAM?

Our CPE center does not certify Chaplains. Please visit the organizations that certify Chaplains.  Our CPE center provides units of CPE upon completion of a program unit.  CPE units can generally be a pre-requisite for certification purposes.

 

IS YOUR CPE CENTER A CHURCH? WHAT IS YOUR RELIGIOUS AFFILIATION?

No. Our CPE Center is not a church. We provide spiritual support for all faith traditions and support people regardless of religion or beliefs

 

CAN I RECEIVE ACADEMIC CREDIT FOR CPE?

It depends, please check with your seminary/school about details.

 

I AM A MINISTER. DO I NEED CPE TO BECOME A CHAPLAIN?

To become a Board Certified Chaplain you need to complete CPE.
